Hugh Bannister

Hugh is the founder and Chairman of IES.
He has over 25 years experience in providing advice to government, industry and regulatory bodies on electricity markets and macro energy policy in Australia and the countries of ASEAN. He conceptualised, oversaw the development and commercialised the analytical tools that IES uses internally and sells to it's clients.
Hugh has particular expertise in:
- Development and implementation of energy policy;
- Energy market design and industry reform; and
- Application of mathematical modelling to a range of complex technical problems.
His current focus is to promote the R&D activities within IES to ensure that it retains its leadership role in market design and associated software tools.
Hugh founded IES in 1983, and is based in IES's head office in Sydney.

Andrew Campbell

Andrew joined IES in 1997 and since that time has been involved in a variety of assignments in energy markets both within Australia and overseas. Much of this time was as a managing consultant which had Andrew leading major consultancy work. In June 2006 Andrew was appointed CEO.
Andrew’s main area of work is in the reform and operation of electricity markets. In this space Andrew has undertaken a variety of work that has ranged from market reform in the case of the ancillary services markets, regulatory advice on issues such as re-bidding and transmission regulation / planning, economic studies such as that associated with Basslink, advice for banks and trading companies on the state and outlook of the market, expert witness in specific matters, and conducting market training seminars for overseas industries and the World Bank.
Prior to joining IES Andrew held the position of Manager Power System Evaluation in the Victorian Power Exchange (the market and system operator for the Victorian electricity market). At VPX, Andrew’s work included the monitoring of system adequacy, modelling and support for the Victorian privatisation process, participation in national market developments, and integrating the operation of the energy market into the transmission planning process. Through this period Andrew worked very closely with the reform unit established by the government to privatise and develop the Victorian market. Andrew also contributed to numerous market issues such as the Top End Working Group that considered the issues of peaking generation, prudential requirements and risks, contract pricing, transmission planning in a market environment, and general market rule issues.
Andrew is based in IES's Melbourne office.

Brett Gebert

Head of Marketing and Accounts
|
Brett has over 10 years of energy market front office experience. His particular area of interest is implementing decision support and risk systems within an organisation both in terms of requirements and business structure. Brett remains focused on achieving sound business outcomes and understands how to extract credible insight from data thereby supporting decision making which underpins sound business outcomes. Brett is a keen conceptual thinker and he provided previous organisations with insight and design principles into submissions for the white and green CPRS papers as well as internal approaches to determine critical areas of accommodating carbon exposure.
Prior to joining IES, Brett worked in several front office management roles at Hydro Tasmania, AGL and CSEnergy. His first five years in the industry were working in Trading with Edison Mission Energy where he implimented the decision support systems for spot trading and analysis. Brett is a graduate of Melbourne University with degrees in Chemical Engineering, Science (applied mathematics) and he is a graduate of the Melbourne Business School. He was also Dux of Year 12 at Berwick High School.
Brett joined IES in 2010 and is based in IES's Melbourne office.

Jane Huang

Manager Finance and Corporate Affairs
|
Jane is the finance manager at IES and oversees the staff of the Corporate section. Being a qualifed CPA, Jane plays a key role in maintaining efficient and effective operations of the business. As a board member, Jane also resources and supports the Board of IES and ensures it is provided with the necessary information, reports and advice to fulfil its responsibilities.
Jane joined IES in 2006 and is based in IES’ head office in Sydney.
