South Korea
IES has been active in South Korea, particularly in the last 3 years. We have provided advice to a number of clients on Korea’s energy sector and electricity market
The type of assignments that IES has undertaken for Korea includes:
- Review of electricity market historical outcomes, current industry structure and assessment of potential future outcomes;
- Seminars, training and workshops centred around market design issues, insights from other markets, reviewing the operation of the market, assessment of outcomes to date and issues in moving forward;
- Provision of analytical support to clients to assist in the valuation of power industry assets;
- Modelling of Korea’s power market to provide independent assessments and projections of electricity prices; and
- Detailed review of energy sector policy, issues, primary energy within the context of a broader assessment of the barriers and opportunities for energy trade within the East Asia Summit region
To support this work IES maintains a database with information on the outcomes and operation of the power market and power industry. We also have developed an electricity market simulation model to project the operation of Korea’s power over the short and medium term.
