Renewable Energy and Carbon

IES has undertaken many assignments concerning the introduction and impact of pricing carbon and the various renewable energy schemes that have been proposed and introduced into the Australian electricity market(s).   IES has developed a substantial capability to model these arrangements and to assess the economic consequences of future carbon (permit) prices and renewable energy certificate prices.

Examples of work undertaken in relation to carbon include a significant study for the National Generators Forum (NGF) on the impact on the power generation sector of transitioning to a carbon constrained economy (through the introduction of the CPRS) including the impact of various scenarios of carbon arrangements in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) support studies, and expert opinion on the market impacts of a CPRS.

In relation to renewable energy, IES has undertaken studies for the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) on the dynamics and potential REC price outcomes, the Clean Energy Council (CEC) on the consequences of various proposed rules, and REC price forecasts for numerous wind farm developers and market participants.
